The information and knowledge contained in this volume help us to systematically understand contemporary society and to decipher the trends toward the reconfiguration of a new world order based on a multipolar structure, within which the United States, Russia, and China aspire to occupy a predominant position.
The work is divided into three sections, comprising a total of 28 chapters, illustrating as many areas of sociological reflection. It is the result of the scientific contributions of 27 Romanian and foreign authors who participated in the creation of a work that is synthetic in terms of content but panoramic in terms of thematic area, illustrative of contemporary sociology.
Each chapter focuses on highlighting the thematic structure and relevant theories of the field addressed, on identifying representative concepts, as well as on presenting an empirical research model capable of helping to explore new fields of knowledge. Some chapters are completely new to the current generation of specialists, such as those that inform us about the status and development of sociology in the Arab world and China, which are almost unknown to the current public in various European countries.
The first seven chapters are devoted to the analysis of the main social units, another 17 chapters deal with explaining the most important social activities and phenomena, while the last four chapters provide valuable information about European, American, Chinese and Arab sociology, enabling us to complete our picture and knowledge of the evolution and concerns of sociology worldwide.
The essential purpose of sociology is to study contemporary society and explain its structure and dynamics, especially those abnormal or pathological, dysfunctional social phenomena that affect normal development and the pace of evolution. There is a direct correspondence and constant interaction between social fields and actions on the one hand, and the main fields of study in sociology on the other, with social realities being deciphered and explained using fundamental sociological theories and representative concepts.
